Hi, my name is Yanisha and I am so excited that you have decided to stop by and view my blog. I am currently a 3rd grade Reading Teacher in Laurel, MD and I am loving every bit of it, sharing my love for reading with my scholars. 

I have been teaching for 9 years and started my teaching career in New York City before moving to Maryland. I have taught inner city youths in kindergarten, first & second grade before landing my position as a Reading Teacher. 

I have always wanted to be a teacher ever since I was in the first grade. I begged my mom to by me a chalkboard to play school at home in our hallway that joined the two bedrooms in our apartment. I would line my dolls and bears up and pretend I was the teacher, teaching them everything I learned in school that week. I would create worksheets just like my teacher did for me and read books to them to. Not until I entered the teaching world, did I realize that teaching was beyond the worksheets and read alouds but about the relationships that I build with my students and their families. I learned that being a teacher was more to it than teaching kids and grading papers but understanding that not all students learn the same way. My job as a teacher was to tailor my instruction to meet ALL my students needs. 

I am an avid reader and enjoy spending my time learning & researching best literacy practices to implement in my classroom as well as diving into good children literature. When students have a strong literacy foundation, they are able to soar to new heights and explore the world around them through literature.
